Hadley Mae Harmon was born on November 8 at 7:26. Devin was a trooper, had her natural and hardly made a sound the whole time. The same cannot be said for Mom, who I heard scream along with Hadley when she was born.:) New Grandma joy I guess. I haven't gotten to see her very much because they live in Logan, but I am done with school in a couple of weeks and I plan on making an annoyance of myself with Auntie visits. Also, my cousin had her baby today, so hopefully I'll have pics of him up soon too. Two new babies for me to hold this Christmas! With none of the responsibility:) I'm so excited to start spoiling her and then sending her home. Enjoy the pics!

Anyone out there?

I'm pretty sure no one reads this anymore, but I'll give a little update anyway. I am in my 8th week of student teaching, and it's a lot of fun! Also a lot of work, I am exhausted pretty much all the time. I'm in 5th grade and I really enjoy working with that age group. I have a great mentor teacher that is teaching me so much great stuff as well. I am starting to freak out about finding a job, though! I haven't heard anything positive lately about the teaching market. Guess we'll find out, I am just happy that I'll have my diploma in December! Nick is still in the welding program and loving it, so grateful for the G.I. Bill:)Can't believe I'll have a new niece in less than a month, I'm getting so excited. Just wish Devin would tell us her name... Hope she's ready to have lots of visitors in Logan pretty soon. I hope the next time I post I'll have pictures to share!

I'm Alive!

I've been told by my sister that I need to update my blog, even though I'm pretty sure she's the only one who reads it and I talk to her almost everyday anyway... So here I am! I had a rough semester this spring, which is partly why I haven't been posting. But it's over, and I've been enjoying the month of May with no classes. Two more classes this summer, and student teaching in the fall then I'm done! Woo hoo! Though now I have to worry about getting a job... Anyway, for anyone who may care, here is a quick rundown of what we've been up to the last few months:
- Nick started school finally and is studying automotive technology, as well as a new job.
-We added a family member with Honey, an impulse adoption one day at Petsmart where we just went for a quick toy purchase. She and Chavez love each other, play all day and cuddle. He's still dealing with some jealousy but overall it's going great! She's so cute and fun.
-I'm going to be an aunt!!! Well a blood aunt, I have many nieces and nephews from Nick's family, but my sister is pregnant with her first so I will be an official aunt now. She is due in November, on my mom's birthday, and everyone is excited. We find out on June 16th what she's having, though I know it's a girl. I call her Peanut, because that's what she looked like in the first picture I saw of her:) Devin gets mad because they all call her Bug... I get my own nickname I'm the only aunt.
-My dad took me and Devin to Las Vegas to see Garth Brooks at the Wynn. Oh my it was amazing! I was worried I would never get to see him in concert. It was Peanut's first concert too, how lucky for it to be him:)
-Sadly, last week we lost my Grandma Frazier to Alzheimer's. She had been gone a long time, and we know she is happy now that she is herself again. It was good to see lots of family again after many years, even if the occasion wasn't the best.
-I turned 27 on Monday...yuck I feel old. And it snowed...I tried not to be offended because I realize that many other people have the same birthday, so maybe the snow was for them and not me. But overall I had a great birthday and did lots of relaxing.

Well that's the most important stuff, I'm at work so sorry no pics to put up. All the stuff you never wanted to know in one post!!! Happy Devin?:)

The Joy of Children

Every time I get get frustrated with school and have many negative thoughts, I do work in an elementary classroom and I am reminded why I'm trying to become a teacher. While I admit that I had no idea how much work it was to be a teacher when I started this journey, I also had no idea how rewarding it could be. I had a second grade placement this semester at Rolling Meadows Elementary School, and it was by far my favorite to this point. I love second grade!!! I was so sad to leave, and the kids were so sweet when I said goodbye. They all made me great cards telling me they love me and will miss me, and wishing me Merry Christmas. They also made me this great poster, which unfortunately is no longer in one piece, thank goodness I took a picture! Also, thanks for the snow! I have a great tree and lots of Christmas spirit now.

Lacking that Spirit

Christmas is my favorite time of year. I start getting excited for it in July, maybe sooner. My radio has 100.3 programmed, and I usually tear out the decorations the day after Thanksgiving (still like one holiday at a time folks). However, this year I am finding it hard to find my Christmas spirit. WHERE'S THE SNOW!!!!! I know in a few months I will be cursing it, but I need it to bring me my spirit! I could never live where it didn't snow at Christmas... BTW, for anyone who actually looks at this blog, I will return soon. One more week of the semester and I may start functioning normally again.

Another Year!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Another year older and wiser. Last week my mom, friend Julie and I went to see George Strait at Usana. It was awesome! Jullianne Hough and Blake Shelton opened for him, and they sounded great too. We sat on the lawn, which I would highly recommend if you want a great concert on a budget. The only downfall to the night was I spent a good chunk of George filling out a witness statement for the guy I turned in that peed on an old lady's blanket. Seriously sometimes I wonder what the #*&% is wrong with people. Other than that we had a lot of fun, the music was amazing, and you all should be jealous:)

July 16th was my niece Maya's birthday(the smile on the right) so Nick and I took her and our other niece Sadie to Liberty Park to play. It was so much fun, I definitely recommend it to anyone with kids. There is a fun fountain with lots of different water spouts to play in, several playgrounds with fun stuff, and a pond to feed ducks. The girls were great when they weren't fighting with each other:) Afterwards we went to Maya's official birthday party to swim and eat lots of good food.

July 24th is my grandpa's birthday, so we decided it would be fun to take him to a Bee's game for baseball and fireworks. It was so hot! It turned out the team that the Bee's were supposed to play canceled, so two high school teams played, but they were really good so it was still fun. Plus we get two more Bee's tickets, a Jazz ticket, and a Miller Raceway ticket to replace the game we didn't get to see, so it was worth it. The fireworks were great, and overall it was a fun night!

This is the gang that went to the game, my sister and her husband Jonas, my mom and Larry, and me and Nick.

We had pretty good seats too, for the game and the fireworks.

At Last...

Many of you who have known me for a while may remember this lovely purple Civic that my mom drives. I'm pretty sure she bought this 1994 Honda when I was in junior high, which would have meant it was pretty new then. Well, over 200,000 miles later, Mom finally gave in and bought herself a new car...

Ta Da!!! This is the new ride. She hasn't decided for sure on her name yet, but she is so cute. Mom has been looking at this car for three years now. I think the dealership knew her by name:) She finally decided last week that the price and timing was right! She was a little bummed because they had to ship it up from Vegas so she had to wait until today to get it, but it was worth the wait. It is Mom's first new car since she bought her Mustang when she was 17, she deserves it!

Fun at the Zoo

The week of the fourth Hogle Zoo had military appreciation days, so we loaded up Nick's sister Heidi's girls and headed up there. It was great to get in free, but unfortunately everyone else had the same idea that day. It was packed but we still had a great time. The girls were great the whole time and it was so fun to see how excited they got for the animals. Luckily it wasn't very hot either. Here are a few pics of the girls on the way to the zoo, stay tuned for the after:) Gracie in her glasses, complete with bottle... Maya was so ready to go, I could feel her impatience even though she didn't say anything...

The girls were so cute and excited to look at every animal. Especially when you can't find that poor person's vein after 15 minutes? 15 MINUTES PEOPLE! Have you ever sat in a chair with a cocky 19 year old guy fishing around in your arm telling you he's almost got it, only to have him stab you yet again and fail? GET SOME HELP WOULD YA?! As you can tell my last blood donation experience was not a good one. I know that I have difficult veins, it is hereditary in my family, and so I always tell them which arm to use and warn them about the possible hardship to come. I've given with Red Cross several times, and I've gotta say I'm not that impressed. I'm not queasy and I have a pretty high pain tolerance, but come on! Today I decided to brave the donating again, this time with ARUP at work. I have had good experiences with them in the past. I tell the 12 year old kid holding the needle(don't they look younger the older we get?) all about my troubled veins and get the same "I can do it" answer. This time I was prepared to tell him to get the *%^* out of my arm if necessary. While he did not get the vein on the first try, or the second... he got it the third time and in only a few minutes this time. Maybe it is a sign that I am not meant for donating... Oh well, maybe I saved a life today! Plus I get to walk around with a cute pink bandage wrapped around my elbow and tell everyone I don't have a life threatening disease, I just gave blood.

Random Post

For all of our niece's birthdays they get to come spend time with me and Nick without any parents or siblings. Jessie's birthday was in May but we didn't get the chance to do her weekend until now. We had lots of fun miniature golfing, eating, watching movies, playing with Chavez, and swimming. She's a cutie and so fun to have around. I just want to vent about something that we talked about in my class last week. My professor was discussing with us the realities of being a teacher to this new techie generation, and having us brainstorm ways that we can use technology in our teaching since that is how we can connect to today's kids. While I see the obvious merit in including technology in the classroom, the professor, who I might add is a techie herself, was implying that without constant technology in the classroom we will not reach our students. Sigh. I am self-professed computer-challenged most of the time, and besides that point, what the *#% happened to using your imagination!!!! I swear that kids are starting to lose the ability to entertain themselves without the aid of a television, computer, or whatever the crap those little hand held video game things are called. I am falling into depression about this. I am holding on to that little speck of hope I have inside of me that I will be the kind of teacher that uses technology, sure, but that can also bring back using the MIND. My kids will read books and learn to love them, even if they are downloading them onto their Blackberries and IPhones. Sigh again. Any words of wisdom or hope are encouraged...

We made it one year!

Yesterday was our one year anniversary! I share a birthday with Nick's sister Taresa, and his other sister Natalie and niece Jessie also have birthdays in May so we had a big party for all of us on Friday. On Sunday, my family took me bowling and we visited family graves. It was a great weekend, with the only downfall being the nasty cold I am still fighting that arrived at the end of the semester. Enjoy the cute pics of my family! Also notice the adorable new addition to the family, Halle the bulldog baby. Nick's sister Natalie got her as a birthday present and she and Chavez are new best friends.

Also, my mother-in-law Tami is in the hospital fighting a bad lung infection. She is doing better and we hope she'll be released sometime tomorrow, but to anyone who reads this say a quick prayer for her recovery!

My Trip to the Desert

Well I am back from my trip and it was AMAZING! I was planning on a big post with lots of pictures, but I've found that it's very hard to put my experience into words. I have posted a few pictures, but most of the stories are being kept for me. If anyone has ever visited a place with a culture that is so drastically different from our own, you will understand my difficulty in explaining.
A few things we did on the trip:
-Given the honor of visiting a petroglyph site and attending a Kachina dance ceremony on the Hopi Reservation.
-Lessons on basket weaving and pottery making from a beautiful Hopi woman in her home.
-Home made fry bread!!! I can never eat it at the fair again...
-Spent a day at the Hopi Day School and worked with the kids there- I want to move there the people are so gracious and the kids are incredible.
-Hiked Canyon De Shelly on the Navajo Reservation and saw the White House Ruins that date back to 1100 AD.
-River trip down the San Juan with a Navajo guide who showed us more ruins and explained the geological features that have formed over millions of years.

It was a long 9 days, especially with 8 other girls... but it was such a great experience. If anyone has the chance to visit, I would definitely recommend taking the opportunity.

Celebrations!

This is a post of celebrations. First, yesterday was baby Chavez's birthday! He is two years old. We aren't sure when he was really born, just that it is around this time, so decided to give our Mexican a Cinco de Mayo birthday.

Second, today is my sister-in-law Natalie's birthday. Happy Birthday Nat! I heard that she got to do a lot of everyday mom stuff instead of something exciting, but I hope she had a good day anyway.

Last, congrats to me! I got a 4.0 this semester, and even though it is tacky to toot my own horn, I am really excited that I managed to pull off those A's. Also, I am leaving on Saturday on a school trip to the Navajo/Hopi Reservations for 9 days. A couple of my good friends from school are going as well, it's going to be awesome. Hopefully I will get some good pictures, and remember to post them.

The Ugly Truth About Marriage

My sister warned me that when I got married, I would get fat. I laughed her off and claimed it wouldn't happen to me. HA!!! Go ahead Devin, give me an "I told you so." Not that I was particularly skinny before I got married, but for the most part my curves were in the right places. Now it might be strecthing it to even call them curves..maybe more along the lines of rolls... Many of you who may read this post have no idea what I am talking about, because you are one of those blessed people who are naturally thin and don't have to worry about it. Even some of you with kids... But for anyone who may know where I am coming from, it sucks! I have decided that a little friendly competition will be great for me, so I joined a team at work that is competing in a workplace Biggest Loser competition. They did this last year and several people from my office lost a lot of weight. Leave it to the State, right? Anyway, the contest goes from April 1 to May 28, and the winning team gets a prize. I hope that knowing that 7 other people are depending on me will give me that little extra push... We'll see how it goes. Everyone send me positive skinny thoughts! If only I had Jillian...

My Wish

If I could have one wish, it would be to be able to talk to my dog for one hour. We could resolve so many problems and misunderstandings, and everyone would be happier. Here is a list of things we would talk about.

Sonia:

-Chavez, it's not okay to go to the bathroom in the house, even if you are right by the door.

-It's pretty gross when you sniff other dog's piles of poop.

-Don't be upset when I don't let you lick my face when I've just watched you lick your privates.

-Barking is annoying unless it affects someone's safety.

-I'm never going to let go of the leash and let you get that bird, so don't pull on the leash and cry like someone's killing you everytime you see one, it's embarrassing.

-I'm being serious when I tell you not to eat our socks. It's not secretly a game.

-I don't appreciate it when you want to sleep with your butt in my face, and neither does your dad.

-It's weird when you follow us into the bathroom and stare at us while we pee. Really weird.

-It's ok to be friends with other dogs. They're not all out to get you. You don't have to be a tough guy. After all, you are a chihuahua... I'm not sure tough is in your job description.

Chavez:

-You kiss me too much. I get it, you love me. Geez...

-You go to the bathroom in the house. What's the big deal?

-You know I lick my privates all the time when you're not looking, you should either never let me lick your face or get over it already.

-It's really annoying when you talk to me in a squeaky, baby voice. Mom.

-If you didn't want me to eat the socks, you shouldn't have laughed at me the first time I did it.

-I know that one day you will let go of that leash, especially if I catch you off guard and charge really hard when I see one. I don't know what it means when you say I'm going to pull your arm out of the socket.

-You can't trust anyone!!! I will continue to bark at every dog I see. Except for Harley, I've investigated and he's ok. And Jib, sorry I bit you at Christmas, I'm a better dog now and I hope you'll give me another chance...

-I am a tough guy. Just because I bark like a girl and love my mom a little too much doesn't mean I can't kick some butt. Have you seen my face wrinkles?

-Stop dressing me up. I'm not a doll or a baby. I don't believe you when you say it's to keep me warm.

-I really just love you a lot and don't want you to be mad at me all the time...

So I realize that this will never happen, and I don't actually know what Chavez is thinking(obviously). Chavez and I were just evacuated from our apartment by a very nice fireman who informed us that there was smoke upstairs that they were investigating, and to please put on a coat and leave the building. Now normally, I would not mind having to talk to a cute fireman and then go outside to look at 10 more while they carry around heavy hoses and look important. However, the neighbor upstairs decided to start a fire in her garbage can on the morning that I have no place to be, am in my sweaty gym clothes still, and have NO makeup on. None. And I have a yappy dog trying to attack said fireman. Don't get me wrong, I know I am a happily married woman with a cute guy of my own, but still it would have been nice if I had at least not smelled like a sweaty gym sock. And looked like one too.

P.S. The firemen were not in fact shirtless, but there were some cute ones.

P.P.S. If for some reason my husband reads this post, I love you and you look better than all of these guys:)

Unexpected Lessons

Beware anyone who may read this lame blog, this post is a tad sentimental. Ok a lot sentimental, but bear with me. I am currently placed in a first grade classroom for two of my methods classes. I never thought that I would want to teach first grade, because I thought it would be like advanced kindergarten, which I'm told it kind of is at the beginning of the year, but the kids now are so amazing. They are so smart and fun and it is great to work with them. My mentor teacher is also incredible, he has a masters in Literacy from the U and it definitely shows with his kids. Anyway, to the sentimental stuff. It is so great to watch these kids interact with each other and with the teacher. They are so full of compassion for each other, I'm suprised everyday with something that one of them will say or do. While there is the standard pulling of hair and throwing balls at each other's faces at recess:), they are so caring! When someone gets an answer right, little voices chirp, "Good job Cecilia! That was a great answer!" etc etc. If someone is hurt, they hug them or rub their back and make sure they are ok. And most impressive, when they say they are sorry, which inevitably happens often when there are 18 six year olds together for 8 hours, I believe they really mean it! I think the thing that I admire most, though, is their ability to say something if they get the urge. They are always telling me that they love my jewelry or that someone's hair looks great. This is true for negative things too, which doesn't always go over well, but all the same I envy the ability to say what they mean! So to wrap this crap up, I went into this thinking that I was going to practice teaching these kids, and they have been teaching me. So if anyone did bother to read this whole dumb post, I guess the point I am trying to make is that we all could learn from the honesty and caring that these kids show to each other. They take their word seriously, and always speak up for what they believe in, even if it is only that someone butted them in the lunch line. I wonder where in the process of growing up this gets lost. If you see someone with great hair, tell them! If you see someone doing something you know is wrong, and it is safe to do so, speak up! Enough from me, next time I'll try to post something interesting to more than just me.

Warning!!!!

Attention everyone, there is a new threat on our streets and in our homes. I'm not sure what exactly they are called, but be on the lookout! They are everywhere! Every night when I go on my walk with my people, I see them everywhere, watching me, waiting for the moment when I let my guard down and they can attack! I am here to give you tips on how to stay safe from these things. First, they only come on at night, when it's dark. They are always high up in the air, so I have to stop, growl, act scared, and then bark frantically at them until my embarrassed parents pull me away. Don't be fooled, they are not only outside. I see one in the bedroom too! The other night I looked up and there was another one, staring down at me. I made sure to bark at that one too. Be aware everyone, these are real threats and it doesn't look like they are going anywhere soon. Don't get caught off guard!

In Loving Memory

Today is the one year anniversary of the passing of my family dog Ginger. Ginger entered my life when I was in the fourth grade, our first pet, and had a long and crazy life! She put up with me and my sister dressing her up in our dolls' clothes, pushing her around in a stroller, and yes painting her nails(claws?) She wasn't always a very good dog, she liked to chew and bark at EVERYTHING, but she was smart and loved to cuddle! One of my favorite memories of Ginger is her sneaking into one of our beds whenever my dad got into the shower, because she wasn't allowed on the furniture, and as soon as she heard the shower turn off she would jump out so she wouldn't get caught:) She loved to sleep in the sun in the garden, which was where she was born, and she shared a birthday with my Grandma, who didn't like dogs except for Ginger. No matter who came into the house, whether she knew them or not, she would bug them until they gave her a treat. There are too many memories to put into one post, but I just wanted to do a small tribute to Ginger, we loved her so much and we miss her everyday!I only have a few pictures of her on this computer, but you can see how adorable she was.

Merry Christmas and Meet Chavez!

Me and Gracie at Thanksgiving

Taresa and Bryce

Baby Chavez taking my spot in the bed

Nick and Chavez

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope that everyone had a great day. Ours was pretty busy, as usual, trying to fit time in the day for three family visits. We started out with my dad for brunch and games, then my mom's for an early dinner, and lastly to Nick's mom's for his family visit. It was a crazy day, but a good one! My family decided to do a Sub-4-Santa this year, so we had no holiday shopping stress, and it was awesome, I recommend it to anyone who wants to give back and do something different for Christmas. It was a little weird though to not open presents on Christmas Day! I don't have pictures from yesterday yet, hopefully soon. I do have pictures of Chavez finally, and a few from Thanksgiving(I know, but it is hard when I don't have my own camera...) So enjoy our new family member, and check back for new better pictures!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd give a quick update. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! As dumb as it sounds, this year was my first year not having Thanksgiving with my mom, and it was a little weird! Nick and I spent last Thanksgiving with my family on a houseboat trip to Lake Powell, so this year was his family's turn. The food was great and we had a good time eating and watching a movie. We did miss the Winquists, it was sad not to have my girls there! I also had hours worth of homework that I was supposed to get done, but with all of the family activities and Christmas preparation I did none of it! I am already regretting it, but I got a lot done at home so oh well.

In other news, Nick and I decided to get our Christmas present a little early this year. We were going to wait a few weeks, but we were too excited. So on Friday night we drove to the Humane Society and adopted the newest member of our family, Chavez. He is a Chihuahua mix, but looks mostly chihuhua. I will have pictures up soon, but my camera has disappeared and Nick's is full of Iraqi sand. Chavez is an angel, and we love him already! It didn't take him long to warm up, he already has claimed our bed. Good thing he only weighs 13 pounds:) He is a sad puppy today, he got really sick this weekend and when I took him to the doctor today he had a temperature of 105! He has medicine now and seems to be doing better already. I know posts are boring without pictures, so I'll stop here and hopefully have Chavez up soon!

Happy Anniversary!

November is a crazy month for us, with lots of birthdays and other special events. November 12 is my mom and stepdad's fourth wedding anniversary! I can't believe it has been that long. For those of you that don't know, Mom and Larry dated in high school and somehow managed to find each other so many years later. I'm so glad they did, Larry is awesome and he balances out my crazy mom. He also puts up with having two new daughters, who are equally as crazy as their mother. They are a great match, and I hope they have a great anniversary. The sacrifice that the men and women in the armed forces make for our safety and freedom is greater than most of us will ever know. I am posting in honor of my husband, who served four years in the Army infantry, two of those years in Iraq. I am so proud of his hard work and sacrifice, and I have seen first hand the effect that war has on a person. He is the strongest and most honorable man I know, and I hope that he knows how much I appreciate his work for our country and our new little family. I also hope that our new president can help to resolve this war and bring back all the men and women over there. Happy Veteran's Day Nick. I love you!

Happy Birthday Mom!

My mom turned 50 yesterday, November 4, and I'd like to take a minute to say Happy Birthday! My mom is awesome, and she has done so much for me and my sister Devin. She made it through being a single mom with two crazy daughters, and finally got us all out of the house and starting our own lives. She remarried a couple of years ago to a great guy and is still incredibly active. She and my sister ran the St. George marathon last month, and it was Mom's 11th? marathon. It's at least 11 sorry Mom if it's more than that. She got to go to Mexico for her birthday, and while she was gone my sister and I decorated her house with 50 signs and black crepe paper, it was great. I'll post a picture when I get it.
